Day 69: What a day!

The boys put Zelda (the dog) in the back/courtyard. It would appear she got bored, crawled under the house to the front yard, and managed to get the gate open. I look out of the window and the neighbor across the street is leading her home. Me and the spawn head outside barefoot to retrieve his beloved pet. But sensing her reincarceration as imminent, she trots off towards the end of the block and a pair of lap dogs at the B&B. We haul ass after her and I start thinking "Liability! If she takes off bounding towards someone to give kisses or play, they freak out and run into the street, get hit by a car or simply trip and fall trying to get away, what is my liability? What if she runs in front of a car that swerves not to hit her? What if she eats someone's cat? Good Lord! Would strict liability apply or is this just negligence? "Just" negligence? Is there a duty? There are leash laws in this state - yes, there is a duty. She wasn't on a leash. SHIT! But she is wearing tags. I'm going to be sued - for sure. What are my defenses? What Are mY DEFENSES?!?!?!?!" Law school has ruined me.
