Day 47: Do what you love...

I sat in on the Healthcare Law Skills sessions this week. I had some questions about the current law and how medicine handles sensitive data (from a legal perspective). Really excited to see that HIPPA and Obamacare were both on the list to be discussed. I mean 2 of the most controversial items since there has been healthcare governance happening in our lifetime. So very cool! Even better, the guy who was leading the session is a Loyola Alum who was previously in-house counsel at a local hospital. It was shaping up to be outstanding. But I have to tell you this guy completely sucked the life out of what could have been an incredibly interesting set of topics. Conversely, there is a 3L VITA volunteer who is going into Taxation. First time I volunteered, we met. He was looking for an error when suddenly "BAM! THERE it is!!!" he exclaims. It felt like Emeril was doing this man's taxes. He was totally "in" to the most dull and monotonous area of law that I know EXISTS. And it was great!!! I could tell he really loved what he was doing and his interest wasn't driven by (just) the money. I even thought for a second "wow, maybe taxation IS cool." Now I certainly can't say for sure, but it didn't feel like this Physicians' Attorney was nearly as invested in his subject matter as the Taxation guy and that was a real bummer.
