Day 34: Unofficial (co-)Prom Queen

Prom was a blast! It was at the Aquarium and just plain beautiful. Flow Tribe (a decent band even though they are from Kenner) played. The food was good; the company even better; some guy tried to steal a life-size penguin figurine; and I was told that I am unofficial (co-)prom queen! How cool is that?!?!? (Thanks, Girls.) I figured today would be a let down for sure, but I was totally wrong. Today was a great day filled with "fun facts", peculiar notions, and a couple of really awesome quotes. The majority I'll use sporadically throughout the semester on days slightly less entertaining. But this fun fact must be shared!

A professor told me there are no cows in parts of Scandinavia because they can't survive in such brittle cold such as 50 below 0 (F). Upon closer investigation (cause I couldn't possibly just accept that at face value) seems he is pretty close to right. As recently as the 1970s there were only 23 native cows in Sweden - and that was not an anomaly for Scandinavian countries. Imported genetic material was used to bolster the breed and (arguably more important to their survival) farmers started grazing the animals inside. Now they have cows. Go figure.
