Day 12: Piggeries

Since last semester my Property professor has fascinated me with the relative ease he works the word "piggeries" into lecture and general conversation. I mean, why piggeries? Are they an underserved property market? And what is it about the word that makes me giggle? Piggeries have been used on everything as example of neighborhood restrictions (i.e. no piggeries allowed) to purchase conditions (i.e. to be used solely for the purposes of a piggery) and even a sort of non-compete agreement (i.e. you may not start your own piggery).

Well today I gained a little insight in to why this native New Orleanian with a JD from Yale and an MA from Oxford is so attached to the subject of piggeries. He said when he was little, his grandmother would speak in French when talking about the little kids and apparently called them "cochon". From now on, I will view it as his way of honoring her instead of what I have been thinking - that it is just plain silliness.
