Day 11: Preoccupied

So I am reading Torts, which tends to magnify the legatious nature of human kind. Case in point, dude is driving down a dark and windy road (isn't that always the way) on a January evening when he runs his car into a tree. Now, I don't suggest that didn't suffer damages from the incident. But what I question is how he ran into the tree to start. Could he not have seen a tree felled onto the road? A sapling, yes; but how is it even possible to overlook a full blown tree laying across the roadway? Where is the personal responsibility not to drive into trees blocking the street? I don't remember trees obstructing the highway being covered in drivers' ed, but there has to be some point where you think "maybe I should stop". Yet I digress...

Tonight I am preoccupied with the idea of prom. We call it the Barrister's Ball, but same thing to me. I have a cocktail dress in my closet I haven't worn yet and I really want a new pair of shoes. But more importantly, I *need* redemption! Here's the deal: Spring semiformal my Sophomore year in undergrad, I went with this really cute guy, who in proper form, took me to Shogun for dinner. Afterwards we shared a cheap bottle of champagne in my dorm room before the romantic walk arm in arm to the dance. Sadly, the evening was cut short. I broke out in hives (did I stress the cheap in champagne?), he freaked out and never called me again. <sigh> Since I stopped drinking cheap alcohol years ago, I feel confident I could make it through the night and one of my Contracts study partners already offered to go shoe shopping with me. Decisions, decisions...
